Police Reforms in Pakistan
Shehri-Citizens for a Better Environment (Shehri-CBE) has been working to strengthen the knowledge, attitude and practices of the police personnel since 2007. Trainings have been conducted all over Pakistan in the various police training facilities across the country including the prestigious Sihala and Saeedabad Training Centers.
Over 1500 police personnel from the rank of Constable to Inspector Police have been trained by Shehri-CBE with the help of experienced trainers including Former Minister of Law and Human Rights, Ex Inspector Generals of Police, Additional Inspector Generals of Police, Retired Justice Supreme and High Courts, Chief of Citizen-Police Liaison Committee, Executive Directors of Civil Society Organizations, Subject specialists and other relevant experts in the field of Human Rights and Investigation Techniques.
Four Training Modules are conducted every year with each batch of Police Officials:1. Detailed appraisal of all the relevant policies/rules/legislations pertaining to Human Rights Operative in Pakistan.
2. The Religious Dimension and Understanding of Human Rights.
3. Human Rights within the context of the vulnerable sectors of society
4. Human Rights in the Global Context
Although Shehri-CBE endeavors to promote gender equality in its training programs, the overall number of women in the police department continues to remain very low and therefore only 13% of the police trainees were women.
Shehri-CBE also conducts a unique Master Trainer Program for merit-based selected Police Trainees. These Master Trainers are then on invited to train other police officials in the next training programs. Shehri’s Hall of Fame values its two master trainers, Sub-Inspector Sher Hussain (Jaffarabad District, Balochistan) and Sub-Inspector Ghulam Sarwar (Jaffarabad District, Balochistan), due to their valiant contributions to the cause of Human rights appraisal in the terror inflicted region. Unfortunately, SI Sher Hussain was martyred by gunmen in 2015 yet he lives in our courage books.
